Skill Survey Results

  • Stephanie Hockenberry presented results from the survey we conducted of employers about skill gaps.
  • Professional skills
    • Wheeling Park HS has the “Habits of Work” curriculum and rubric they use with students.
    • Some of the intangibles students get in college but not high school
    • Basic life skills are important
    • Being able to have conversations
  • How to develop skills
    • Chamber could have videos on website
  • How to get the word out about job postings.
  • What do employers want out of this? Finding students is difficult.

Microcredentials

The group also discussed microcredentials, which are short-term skill certifications that are increasingly being offered by higher education institutions.

  • Focused on non-consumers, upskilling current employees
  • Badges that stack towards a degree
  • Industry certifications

    • Launching a series of microcredentials
  • OU has a small program
  • Dual credit more challenging
